  `The Abandoning' sets establishes and introduces the lyrical universe that Void Maw's songs occupy - the Earth is revealed to be an ancient eldritch entity, awakened due to Mankind's relentless activity. In response, the planet's geobiological systems begin to kill off it's biosphere, releasing an horrendous plague upon its inhabitants. Subsequently, the surviving humans create arkships in a desperate attempt to leave their home in search of new beginnings throughout the cosmos.
